OMS Vibroflot Utilized for Stone Column Project
Thermal Power Plant Project – Nghi Son / Vietnam
Nghi Son II BOT Thermal power plant project is a thermal power plant with 2 turbines 600 MW capacity was in Tinh Gia commune – Thanh Hoa province – Vietnam. Four stock houses were built on a soft ground to contain a huge coal. They are used as mainly fuel material for operation of plant. We designed the coal stock house as it contains 12 meters highest of dry coal.
The whole area of coal stock houses was placed on a soft ground with soft soil layers various from 1.5m to 9.0m depth. We aimed to avoid the settlement of soft ground during coal loading of coal stock house. So we designed the stone column with 9m depth – 800 mm diameter – spacing 2.2m x 2.2m at center area and 2.5m x 2.5m at shoulder of coal mass to improve soft soil layers.

In fact, the general contractor selected the CDM (Cement Deep Mixing) method for soft soil improvement but FECON (www.fecon.com.vn ) has convinced DVN to change soft soil improvement from CDM to stone column (dry bottom feed method). The change method of soft soil improvement has helped DVN company save a million of USD for soft improvement work and complete the project on time.

FECON S&C used vibroflotation and bottom feed method with three vibroflotation equipment: An electric motor and two hydraulic motor to carry out total 12,940 stone columns of this project. Whole stone column installation work has been done within 120 days that was satisfied owners requirement of quality as well as schedule. We are very satisfied with the work of support from company OMS so we had to complete the project before 10 days against the contract.
At the moment, the project is in the construction phase of concrete floor section above the ground was treated by stone columns.
Thermal Power Plant will be completed in July 2022
