Bottom-Driven Wick Drain Installation Machine WD 28–43

Advantages of Variable Moment SVR 8:

The OMS Wick Drain Installation Machine is a ground improvement solution used for the rapid consolidation of cohesive soils. The machine consists of hydraulic motors, gear systems, a mandrel, and a high-frequency vibratory hammer.

It is widely used to discharge water from cohesive soils, thereby minimizing liquefaction risk and significantly reducing settlement time compared to conventional methods.

Wick Drain Installation Process

The hydraulically driven gear system installs the mandrel—equipped with a prefabricated vertical drain (PVD)—into cohesive soil until it reaches a firm layer. If necessary, the operator can use a high-frequency vibratory hammer to drive the mandrel deeper.

The mandrel places the prefabricated vertical drain to the required depth, leaving the drain pipe embedded in the soil. The empty mandrel is then withdrawn, refilled with a new PVD, and the installation process is repeated.

For more details, please read how wick drain systems are installed.

Advantages of Wick Drain Installation Machine

  • To prevent excessive settlement of cohesive soils when used for structural applications (such as roads, airports, bridges, and other foundations),
  • To increase soil strength in high seismic risk areas in order to prevent liquefaction and potential structural damage,
  • To complete projects successfully in a shorter time and at lower cost.
